QR Product Cards at the Buffet — The New Premium Hotel Standard

When buffet guests choose food without a card beside the dish, they walk away unhappy — with no allergen, calorie or ingredient information, they feel unsure. The QR Product Card system, now standard in five-star hotels, is spreading in 2026 to boutique hotels, premium caterers and corporate dining halls. With three templates, seven sizes and brand-coloured QR codes, arriving in QrMenum's 2026.6 release, we are bringing this standard to venues of every size.

1. The Hidden Problem in the Buffet Guest Experience

At a buffet restaurant, the guest journey doesn't begin at the table — it begins at the buffet, while filling a plate. At that moment, three critical pieces of information are missing:

  • What is this? — To an international guest who doesn't speak Turkish, "Avcı Böreği" means little. Is it a pastry? Sweet or savoury?
  • Does it contain my allergen? — Gluten, lactose, hazelnut, egg — without a label, guessing is risky.
  • How many calories? — A guest watching their diet can't choose without knowing.

The traditional solution: small printed cards, mostly in a single language, with no allergen icons. Guests can't read them and can't ask (if no staff member is nearby), while service staff are swamped explaining every dish. The result: service slows down, guest satisfaction takes a hit, and the question "Would I come back?" grows louder.

2. The QR Product Card: How the Solution Works

A QR Product Card is a printed card designed specifically for the buffet format. It sits beside the dish and carries:

  • The dish name in multiple languages (TR/EN/RU/DE/FR and more)
  • Calories + macronutrients (fat, carbs, protein)
  • Allergen and dietary icons (colour-coded, understood internationally)
  • A QR code — scan it for a detail page on the phone

There is no price, because at a buffet every dish is part of the package. The focus stays on what matters — in seconds, the guest gets answers to "What is this? Can I eat it? Does it fit my calorie goals?"

3. Three Templates — Matched to Your Restaurant's Character

Not every restaurant uses the same kind of card. QrMenum 2026.6 offers three templates:

Editorial — Cream background, magazine typography

Italic Cormorant Garamond type with gold accents on a cream background. A premium magazine feel — ideal for fine dining and classic restaurants. It sits perfectly beside white tablecloths or on a wooden board.

Atelier — Black background, gold accents

A dark, premium aesthetic. For steakhouses, night-time concepts and luxury restaurant settings. Contrast that stays readable even in a dark room.

Compact — Minimalist, multilingual, ESL-inspired

Inspired by the electronic shelf labels (ESL — Electronic Shelf Label) used in supermarkets. Minimalist, clean, multilingual. The most popular choice for buffets with an international guest profile — standard in hotels in Bodrum, Antalya and Cappadocia.

4. Seven Sizes — For Every Service Layout

For the Editorial and Atelier templates: Postcard (10×15), A5, Square (10×10), Tiny (10×7). The Compact template adds: Wide (21×15), Regular (15×10), Strip (14×5.3). (All sizes in cm.)

The most popular: Tiny 10×7. The reason: "eight cards fit on one A4 sheet". One print run, many dishes — printing costs drop dramatically.

5. A4 Imposition — Operational Efficiency

Printing 50 separate cards for a 50-dish buffet wastes time and money. QrMenum's A4 imposition mode places eight cards on a single A4 page in one click. Trim the printed pages and a 50-dish menu is ready on seven sheets.

For a hotel kitchen operator, this detail is a lifesaver: when the menu changes, new cards are printed within minutes and the old ones are retired. Seasonal menu management becomes practical.

6. Brand-Coloured QR Codes

A standard QR code is black and white. In QrMenum 2026.6, the QR code's colour matches your brand too: on a cream background the QR turns golden brown, on a dark background champagne gold, and on white, brand magenta. Your brand in every detail — not a black-and-white QR, but a code that carries your restaurant's signature.

7. Buffet View — The Page That Opens When the QR Is Scanned

When the guest scans the QR code on the card, a specially designed page opens on their phone: no prices, clean, nutrition-first. The venue's logo, a category chip, calories in large type, macros side by side, allergen icons, dietary labels and a "Full Menu" button.

Automatic language selection: if the guest's phone language is available on the venue's menu, the page opens in that language — a Russian guest sees Russian, a German guest sees German. No manual language selection needed.

8. Implementation: Live Within a Week

The standard setup process:

  1. Day 1: Menu items in the system — photos uploaded, categories correct
  2. Day 2: Bulk nutrition analysis with the Nutrition Assistant
  3. Day 3: Operator approval — low-confidence values checked manually
  4. Days 4–5: QR Card template selection + colour palette + A4 layout
  5. Day 6: Test print + trial run at the buffet
  6. Day 7: All cards printed and in place at the buffet — live

9. Frequently Asked Questions

Can the card size be changed later?

Yes. You simply reprint the same content at a different size — the record stays the same; only the A4 layout changes.

Which template is the best fit?

It depends on your restaurant's character: fine dining → Editorial, steakhouse → Atelier, buffet + international guests → Compact.

Does a brand-coloured QR code affect readability?

No. As long as the contrast ratio is maintained, a QR code in any colour scans reliably. The system checks contrast automatically.
